Sometimes it is inappropriate to perform even the most standard piercing. A piercer should politely refuse to perform a piercing that could be dangerous, ill suited, unsuccessful, or for which they are not trained. In general, piercings consdered by the piercer to have little or no chance of healing should be turned away. A good piercer takes these things into consideration and will not put you at risk. Be warned of the things your piercer should be concerned with, this will tell you if they are experienced and knowledgeable enough to put a needle through your skin.
The following are examples:

*Hemophilia*Auto-immune Disorders*Diabetes
or other medical condition(s) that may negatively influence the piercing procedure or the healing process should be careful and honest with their body piercer about their condition; It is up to the body piercer to proceed with caution.

*Skin or Tissue Abnormalities*Irregular or Surgically-altered Tissue
This should be discussed with your body piercer. It is up to you as the client/patient to be upfront about these things, so your piercer can accurately instruct you futher. If there is an obvious skin or tissue abnormality that may include but is not limited to rashes, lumps, bumps, scars, lesions, moles, freckles, and/or abraisons, your body piercer may decide it is unsafe to continue and should be knowledgeable and honest with you.
*Pregnancy
*PERSONAL WARNING FOR the client that has impending plans to become pregnant and wishes to get a nipple, navel or other piercing:
It is advisable to refrain from piercing during pregnacny to allow the body to focus on the important, complex, and demanding task that it is handling already. Your body piercer may suggest you wait until after the baby is born.

*Heart Conditions
Heart conditions are not typically a big concern for body piercing. More infromation can be found at www.heart.org
*Occupational*Recreational
or other environmental factors can affect the healing process and should be discussed.
Again, it is up to you as the client to be upfront about these things, so your piercer can accurately instruct you further.
